You will follow these steps to

complete your assignment

1.      This assignment can be worked on in a group or individually but each person MUST to hand in his or her own written work.

 

2.     Get into a group of 6 and pick a side. If you do not get back to me right away you will be assigned a position.

 

3.     Use the resources provided to find out background information on the topic. If you do use additional resources don’t forget to cite them.

 

4.     Each team will work together to create their argument for the debate. (There will be 1 class period in the computer lab allotted to this assignment. If more time is needed it will be done outside of class time)

 

5.     In addition the individual will hand in his or her own planning sheet at debate notes.

 

6.     The written planning sheets and debate notes will be what are handed into me. They do not have to be in paragraph form they can be point form.

 

7.     You will be graded individually on your write up and on you input during the debate. You will be graded as a group on the strength and the debate of your groups position.

 

8.     As a group you can use but does not have to use a multimedia sources, poster, PowerPoint as material to support your argument.

 

9.     We will have two days of debates. Each day there will be a winner. The winner will be chosen on who has the strongest argument.

If additional resources are used please reference them and attach to the back of your hand in portion.

What is a Debate?

A class debate teaches research skills, critical thinking skills and speaking skills. If you can debate a concept or position you can be sure that you know the idea very well. A debate can be described as a contest of argumentation in which two opposing teams defend and attack a given proposition.
